LASPA warns against destruction of parking signages

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), has charged residents to desist from the indiscriminate destruction of the various road signages installed for the effective management and parking control in the State.

‎The General Manager, LASPA, Mrs Adebisi Adelabu, gave the warning today during a chat with the press, noting that some of the road signages erected across the State for an improved parking culture as well as the safety and benefit of motorists are been vandalized.

‎She informed that the signages which are strategically installed across the State at different road locations are used in regulating parking activities, ensuring traffic flow and enhancing public safety.

‎Mrs. Adelabu further emphasized that the signages are part of public infrastructure meant to enhance model parking, stressing that it is a criminal offense for any individual or groups to temper with any of the parking infrastructure and signages.

She noted that chapter 17, section 35 of the Criminal Law Code of Nigeria, states that “Unlawful interference with property, Any person who unlawfully disconnects, removes, tampers, meddles with or in any manner interferes with the use of any private or public property commits a felony and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for three (3) years”

According to her, vandalization of parking signages poses a threat to public safety, disrupts the smooth flow of traffic, and creates inconvenience for motorists seeking parking spaces.

LASPA condemns totally in the strongest terms the destruction of the State Parking signages and would not hesitate to take necessary legal measures to ensure perpetrators are brought to book.

LASPA is committed to improving the state’s parking infrastructures and would soon be deploring more road parking signages across various areas in the State and called on members of the public to take responsibility for the infrastructures in their area.
